What MonoJot is
MonoJot is a minimal, local‑first notes app. Your notes live in your browser storage unless you import or export backups.
The basics
• Create notes with New.
• Notes autosave while you type (you’ll see “Saving…” then “Saved just now”).
• The bottom bar shows: last key, modifiers, typing dots, and word/character counts.
• Hover a note in the Library for quick actions (pin, archive, export, trash).
Smart typing suggestions
Smart typing shows a grey inline suggestion while you write. Press Tab to accept any suggestion, or Esc to dismiss it. Math typed with = also accepts with Space. Suggestions are designed to understand natural, real-life phrases instead of strict commands.
Quick math and everyday calculations
Type 45+92=, (45+92)/3=, or 15% of 240=. MonoJot previews the answer; press Space or Tab to insert it. Everyday helpers also work with Tab: 20% off 150, 15% tip on 42, split 84 between 4, add 12% tax to 89, increase 120 by 15%, and decrease 120 by 15%. MonoJot uses a safe parser, not JavaScript eval.
Natural unit conversions
Type phrases like 10 km to miles, 5 feet 8 inches to cm, 5'8" to cm, 1 1/2 cups to ml, 3/4 inch to mm, 12 ft x 10 ft to m2, 10 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm to liters, or 1 nautical mile to km. Press Tab to accept. Supported groups include metric/imperial length, nautical length, area, volume/capacity, mass/weight, temperature, storage, internet/data speed, time, pressure, energy, power, and fuel economy.
Data, drive space, and internet speed
Try 100 GB to MB, 50 Mbps to MB/s, 10 GB at 50 Mbps, how long to download 10 GB at 50 Mbps, or 50 Mbps for 2 hours to GB. MonoJot treats Mbps as megabits per second and MB/s as megabytes per second.
Currency
Type 100 usd to bdt, 50 eur to gbp, 75 aud -> cad, or 100 usd to bdt on 2025-12-31. Press Tab to accept. Currency uses cached monthly reference rates from Frankfurter. Rates are approximate, may lag market rates, and are for general writing/reference only — not trading, tax, accounting, payment, or financial advice.
City and time zone conversion
Type sydney time now, time in sydney, what time is it in tokyo, 9am dhaka to sydney, tomorrow 3pm london to dhaka, next monday 10am new york to tokyo, or 9am UTC+6 to London. Press Tab to accept. Use city names for best results; MonoJot handles daylight saving through the browser’s built-in time-zone data. Ambiguous abbreviations such as CST or IST will ask for a city or UTC offset instead of guessing.
App Lock
App Lock locks on launch when enabled with a PIN, and can also lock manually or after your idle timer.
When locked, type your PIN with the keyboard or on-screen keypad. MonoJot unlocks automatically as soon as the correct PIN is entered. Use Forgot PIN? to remove only the App Lock PIN; notes are not deleted.
Local‑first
Your notes stay in this browser unless you import or export backups.
Use backups if you want portability.
Profile
Update your display name and bio in Settings → Profile. When you click Save you’ll see a confirmation.
Preferences
Preferences are grouped under
Writing,
Library,
Search, and
Privacy.
Key items:
- Default paste: plain text (default) or rich text. Hold Shift to paste the opposite.
- Font, Font size, Line spacing, Spellcheck.
- Sort order, templates, search behavior, highlight matches, hide previews.
Formatting bar & bottom status
Use the formatting bar for bold/italic/underline, headings, lists, code, link, highlight, and Print.
The bottom status line shows save state and quick feedback (e.g., pasted, locked/unlocked).
Time & reminders
Use reminders to attach time-based nudges to notes. You can view, add, edit, and delete reminders from the reminder UI.
Calendar-style organization works through your note templates and reminders together.
Weather
Weather appears in the app’s utility views when enabled. It’s designed to stay out of the way while writing.
Dark / light mode
Toggle theme from the header. The app keeps contrast high for long-form writing.
Focus
Focus mode reduces distractions by keeping the editor central. The library and panels can be tucked away while you write.
Library
Notes live in the Library. Sorting and reordering are delayed until you’ve been idle for ~3 seconds after typing, so your writing flow stays stable.
